Below is a chart of traffic measured near a highway. The blue line is the average for a friday (based on 4 previous fridays). The yellow bars show traffic for december 5th 2008. As you can see the prediction based on previous bluetooth measurements is pretty accurate. At peak hours it's possible to receive up to 3200 bluetooth devices per hour.

Le Monde, Volkskrant etc etc |

The last couple of days a number of articles have been written about Bluetoothtracking in Le Monde (french newspaper) and Volkskrant (dutch newspaper). I had a number of emails of people asking me to find their stolen phone or who have exciting spy movie like ideas about bluetoothtracking. Time to get the facts straight again.. - It's impossible to pinpoint people at any given time on a map. The range of bluetooth is only 100 meters! So if you live in South Africa, and your phone got stolen.. sorry, I can't help you!
- The idea started to measure speed of vehicles and the flow of people... not to track people. Tracking people is not really an option with just 5 measuring points in a country like the Netherlands. It would take tens of thousands of measuring locations to make accurate tracking. So.. I can't tell if you kid is skipping school, your husband visits a prostitute or where your stole Iphone is.
- The databaseserver has crashed.. and sorry to say.. this project is not generating a lot of income on banner clicks. So it looks like it will be out for a while. The project is lacking corporate sponsors and the plug will have to pulled probably soon. I am sure some big company is going to pick up on these bluetoothtracking ideas and so bluetoothtracking will live on :)
Peace! |

My provider pulled the plug on the database.. it had grown to large for them to support it.. I am in the process of setting up a local database server.. after the weekend everything should be up and running again.. |

A lot of conversions have been done on the bluetooth database. Everything is up and running again. I am almost done with a api key program.. that way it should be possible to upload data using an api key. Interested in joining? Please contact me. The current sitation is that there are 219,886 unique mac addresses logged. We have someone from Germany (Heidelberg) hooked up now and it's starting to show the first matches. Also I made a little stat of the most popular phones at right now. It seems like the Nokia CK-7W is now the most popular model (most often detected) with 5781 unique devices found so far. More stats will come soon. Next will be traffic prediction based on historical traffic.
27/08 Diederik pointed out to me the Nokia CK-7W is actually a carkit and not a phone. Thanks D. |

Busy times made it quiet here.. but there is some news. - The current unique number of devices found it 86.198 at this moment (and still growing insanely)
- I received a file from a guy in London also doing bluetoothtracking. We have quite a few matches between London and Holland. I will put up the data very soon.
- Someone in Haarlem might be joining soon.. so more data to come.
The names of bluetooth devices is a trendy thing. Check out this one. |

Some quick update on some numbers here.. So far already over 53,000 unique bluetooth devices have been discovered. The most succesful location so far seems to be Apeldoorn City Center with over 38,000 unique devices, and Den Haag catching on quickly with 10,200 bluetooth devices. Oh.. and by the way.. 3 more people traveled from Apeldoorn to Den Haag, making the total 19. |

Dutch working hours - off on friday afternoon |
|
Friday, 30 November 2007 12:34 |
|
Below you see the statistics of the Apeldoorn Driehuizen bluetooth scanner. The location of this scanner is near a couple of office buildings. You can clearly see the early morning and late afternoon traffic.. It even shows that they usually go for a walk after lunch. One afternoon peaks at 12.. friday afternoon.. and this is because many people take friday afternoon off. Dutch people like to enjoy long weekends and often take friday afternoon off. |
